
LIBRARY
A library is a treasure-house of knowledge. A well-stocked library is an asset to the school, college, university or the neighbourhood. The term “Library” has been derived from the Latin word “Liber” which means “a book” and refers to a collection of books gathered for study, research, reference and recreation, where as Oxford English Dictionary defines library as a place where books kept for reading, study or reference.
The Library of Pravabati College, Mayang Imphal is an academic library associated with and attached to the college which was established in 1991. The aim of library is to provide the needs of users. The collections of the library are books, journals, periodicals, newspapers etc. The numbers of staff working in the library are 3 professionals and 7 non-professionals.
Objectives of the library
The main objectives of the library are as given below:
- To cultivate the reading habits;
- To keep the student with up-to-date knowledge;
- To maintain the complete information need of the right users at right time and at the right place; and
- To facilitate informal self learning.
User Community:
Students, teachers and non-teaching staff constitute the user community of the library.
Working hour:
The library remain open on all working days between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
Rules and Regulations
- Users entering the library must keep their bags and others at the entrance.
- All the users must sign the register available at the entrance.
- Silence must be strictly maintain in the library.
- Eating/beverage/sleeping/talking/smoking are not allowed inside the library.
- Library card is issued on demand of users and is not transferable and its loss must immediately be reported to the library.
- Loan of books can be availed through library card only.
- Show the book at the checkpoint before taking out the issue books.
- Use of mobile phones and other devices likely to cause disturbance are not permitted inside the library.
- All the users are free to browse the books in the library and books taken out of the shelves should be left on the reading tables.
- Newspapers must be read only in the library on specific table and should not be taken to any other reading areas.
- Journals/ Reference books/Periodicals are not available for loan.
- Marking, damaging, scratching, stealing library materials or property will invite disciplinary action against the defaulters.
- The period of loan will be 15 days for students and 30 days for teachers and staff.
- A book can be renewed for further one term, if the book is not being reserved by anyone.
- If a book/ book borrowed from the Library is/are lost or damaged, the matter must be reported to the Librarian immediately and it should be replaced with a new copy. If the replacement is not possible, the user has to recover the cost of the lost or damaged book.
- When a member leaves the college he/she should return all the books without fail.
